7th Delhi International Film Festival 2018, an initiative by The Social Circle, is all set to offer Delhiites a visual treat of Avante Garde Films, Art and Literature, during the 5 day festival, to be held from 14th to 18th October, at NDMC Convention Centre and Central Park, Connaught Place, New Delhi, in association with NDMC and Information & Broadcasting Ministry. Tourism and Culture Ministries are Associate Partners.
The 7th Delhi International Film Festival will be formally inaugurated by a host of Celebrities, Diplomats, Political Personalities, amidst packed audiences on the 14th of October at NDMC Convention Central, Connaught Place, where Opening film Whispering Sands, Directed by Nacer Khemir from Tunisia will be screened outdoors, on a giant screen installed in the park – a unique feature of DIFF. On the Closing and Award Ceremony on 18th October, the film Susah Sinyal, Directed by Ernest Prakasa from Indonesia is the Closing Film, also screened at NDMC Convention Centre, Sansad Marg and Connaught Place, New Delhi.
The opening ceremony was quite a global event in terms of the guests, ambassadors and high commissioners from the special partner countries. The dignitaries from Tunisia, Indonesia, Australia, Jordan, Vietnam, Spain, Morocco, Mexico and Syria were honored with mementos of gratitude and love. The dignitaries lit the ceremonial lamp to inaugurate the festival and unveiled the catalog as well. It was the first time that a representative from Pakistan attended the festival and our founder Ram Kishore Parcha rightly pointed out that relations stay intact through cinema regardless of the diplomatic differences.
This was followed by the national anthems of India and Tunisia. Then speeches from ambassadors and high commissioners, H.E M Neijmeddine Lakhal (Ambassador of Tunisia), H.E Sidharto Reza Suryodipuro (Ambassador of Indonesia), Ms. Harinder Sidhu (High Commissioner of Australia), Santiago Ruy Sanchez (Cultural Counselor of Mexico). The deputy high commissioner of Syria to India, H.E Al Basheer. Mr. Jyoti Kalash, the Principal Commissioner of Nagaland was specially honored by the festival organizers.
