The First Silent Feature Film made in India was Raja Harishchandra. It was released in 1913. The First Indian sound film was Ardeshir Irani’s Alam Ara released in 1931. 1931 to 2012 Indian Cinema has come a long way in terms of technology, art & direction, budget and all other possible terms. One thing that has changes drastically is the attitude. Its more open and bold now as compared to what it was 80 – 85 years ago.

The story of this film revolves around a young girl, Amba, 16 years who lived happily with her father & mother, Swati. Amba is studying in 12th standard while her mother, Swati is a school teacher & father is not doing any work due to loss in business. In depression father becomes alcoholic & doubts his wife’s extra marital affair with a colleague of hers. Things go out of way when Amba’s father dies. A family friend & neighbor take charge for all family responsibility of Amba. Incidentally Amba builds up a relation with this neighbor’s husband & one day Amba marries a NRI & settles in U.K. The life of Amba changes when she comes back to India to visit her mother & witnesses an unexpected turn in all their lives to find the new relations & its complications.
Sins is a story of a Catholic priest who is romantically involved with a young woman. The film was protested against by those that felt it was a negative portrayal of Catholicism and indecent. The film was banned due to its highly erotic content.
Ek Choti Si Love Story :
The film was based on a teenager attracted to a married middle aged woman. Manisha Koirala played the lead role. Manisha Koirala accused the authorities for using body double in the steamy scenes created controversies. She accused the film production for using body double without her consent to which she tried to hinder the film release.
starring Amitabh Bachchan and Jiah Khan, the movie revolved around how a married man in his sixties fell in love with a teenage girl. The Congress had a problem with the content as they felt it was against Indian values. It was also banned in Allahabad.
A woman centric film, the movie struck a controversy before its release when a leaked clip of Radhika Apte and Adil Hussain’s sex scene was being circulated. Radhika Apte was quite upset with it and the filmmakers said that there was much more to the movie.
