Fox Star Studios, which co-produced Kakka Muttai with South star, Dhanush is distributing Half Ticket, marking their entry into Marathi Cinema. The film will release with English subtitles.
Half Ticket, a beautiful story of two slum kid brothers and their desire to have something beyond their reach, features debutant child actors, Vinayak Potdar and Shubham More as the two slum kids and Priyanka Bose as their mother.
Sharing his thoughts on the film, Samit Kakkad who made his directorial debut with acclaimed film Aayna Ka Bayna says “Films have no language and a story like Half Ticket – about two slum kids and their simple desire- has a universal appeal and can be told in many different languages“
What made him to set the film in the Mumbai slums, “With over 11 million of its residents in slums, Maharashtra has the highest slum population. The slums and the hi rises co-exist in every area of Mumbai. The kind of existence the slum dwellers have is something most of us are apathetic to. The rich and the poor are immediate neighbours. Shooting this film in the real slums of Mumbai was an exciting challenge that allowed me to interact with my neighbours. The contrast is so stark; the filming in actual locations helped me bridge the ignorant gap by entering a child’s world. Being a Mumbaikar all my life I have met countless such slum kids every day. Sometimes I buy what they sell on the streets, sometimes I walk past them, not realising it would mean they will not eat a basic meal that day.” Kakkad says.
The film is produced by Nanu Jaisinghani, Suresh Jaisinghani, and Mohit Jaisinghani who own a well-known Marathi film studio, Video Palace. Nanu Jaisinghani says, “It was my friend Sachin Pilgaonkar (Marathi star) who asked me to watch Kakka Muttai. He said it’s a very good movie. I saw the film and loved it and immediately got in touch with the makers to buy the rights to remake it in Marathi. I am very confident that audience who loved Sairaat and Thithi will love this one too.“
A film about desires and the yearning for the unattainable, Half Ticket is a story of two slum kids who are fascinated with the arrival of a new pizza shop in their locality. Expensive beyond their means, they long to try one. But, fate has a different game in store for them.
Weaving a story of myriad relationships in the world of the Have Nots, Half Ticket interlaces the story of the kids’ desires for a Pizza with a mother’s desire to bring her husband back home and a low-rent thug’s desire for easy money.
The film also metaphorically accounts the world of the ‘Haves’ and their desire for the little things in lives that eludes them and the desires invoked by television, which teaches us to salivate over things we never knew, otherwise existed.
In a world divided, the desires explored through the film showcase a world filled with expectations and aspirations — an entry ticket to an Exclusive Club.
